A Different John Grisham Book: Playing for Pizza

This is a fun, light hearted tale of an NFL quarterback who just makes the worst mistake possible: 3 interceptions in the 4th quarter to lose the AFL championship game…on national TV, of course.

Grisham, with a straight face and a light touch, tells how this third string quarterback, Rick Dockery, with no future left in the NFL heads off to Italy! Yes, it seems there’s American football in Italy!

A word of warning! Don’t read this book is you have just started a diet- the descriptions of the Italian food are just wonderful and made my mouth water! You may want to stock up on Parmesan cheese and Parma prosciutto.

This is a great book to share around the family: enough football for football fans and enough Italy for non-fans, no mystery and no courtrooms! This book is a hoot!

This is my fifth review for the 2009 Support Your Local Library Challenge

You know, I read this book last year and enjoyed it too. It was definitely a change from John Grisham's usual fare. But a very nice story, all in all. And I thought I was probably the only one who had liked it! Glad to hear someone else did too.

I never read that one and I do read most of his. I guess because football was mentioned I thought I wouldn't like it, not being a football fan. I will have to check it out and read it. Thanks for your review.

I will have to keep my eye out for this one. Thank you for the review. I have read a couple of Grishams non legal books Bleachers and A Painted House (book much better than movie) and enjoyed them.

I HEARD John Grisham talking about this book and the writing of it on NPR one day!!! I loved hearing him - - - I think I need to go find this book and READ it, especially in light of the fact that I'm a HUGE football fan.

Thanks for the reminder!!!
