Vintage Thursday Thingie: A Copper Finjan Coffee pot

This is a very old copper finjan. It is also called a cezve and in Greece its called a briki. .. whatever name is used, its a pot for making Turkish or Greek coffee. You simply boil together very finely ground coffee and water, often sugar is added too, then let the grounds settle a bit before pouring it into very small cups. It is quite strong! Once made over an open fire, the long handle helped the coffee maker not get burned.
You can see that this little coffee pot must have made alot of coffee...if only it could talk what stories could it tell.

And the Greek coffee is very good! I had one of those years ago, but never knew the name of it, I just called it a Greek coffee pot.

I have to ask - do you drink this kind of coffee often?

No matter - it's a lovely piece. Definitely well loved.

You always have the best vintage thingies! I've always wanted to try Turkish coffee, even though I know it's really strong. But with enough cream in it, it's probably quite good!
Happy VTT!

Hi Miri, your greek copper coffee heater is cool! But what really caught my eye when I opened your blog page was the quilts! I have had fun looking down through some of your older posts. I also took a look at the string quilt challenge... I"m too late to join that, but I think I"ll try making some of those just for fun.

My neighbour is from Cyprus and she makes me coffee this way. She always serves it along side a tall glass of water. i have a small stainless pot like this. i keep it for when my Greek Sister in Law visits. She really appreciates that I bought it for her to use.

Have you actually made coffee in it Miri?
